Biking Gear
An excellent motorbike is not enough. Every off-road motorbike rider needs the right protective clothing and helmet. We prefer you to bring your own gear as this will fit your personal needs. If necessary you can rent gear from Algarve Offroad.
Good Gear
1. Helmet
Cross or Enduro helmets that can be worn with goggles are preferred over normal helmets with a visor because they offer better ventilation and more protection from low lying branches and the sun.
2. Goggles
Tight fitting goggles prevent dust getting in your eyes; people with contact lenses need to be extra sure of having tight-fitting goggles. Goggles for people wearing glasses are available (you just put them on over your glasses).
3. Boots
Cross or Enduro boots are an absolute must. Other forms of footwear including normal biking boots are not adequate. Boots need to offer protection against flying rocks, sticks, shrubs; your shins are the most vulnerable part of your body during Enduro biking.
4. Trousers
We highly recommend original Cross or Enduro trousers but other biking trousers are also acceptable.
5. Knee and elbow pads
A cheap acquisition considering the protection they offer, simply a must.
6. Body protector
Algarve Offroad has the well known plastic body protectors for rent.
7. Gloves
Again, Cross or Enduro gloves are a must. They offer protection without taking away the feeling of the handlebars or of the road under you. Heat and sweat are easily disposed of
8. Shirt, Jacket
A Cross shirt over a protector shirt is very comfortable in a warm climate. In addition we suggest a light Enduro jacket (a heavy leather jacket is not adequate).
9. A small Rucksack
A small rucksack with a few items is always practical. Make sure you’ve got a flask or camel bag to fill underway. Take enough power food with you like energy drinks and bars. We also suggest taking a camera, pocket knife or multi-tool, and a torch. Although it does not often rain, compact rain gear is a good idea. Do not forget your sunscreen (factor 20 or higher).
10. Reasonable Health
Our aim is to have a good ride and to enjoy the scenery. You will need to be physically prepared. If you have any special requirements please let us know so that we can take your needs into account. |
